A CLINICAL EVALUATION ON THERAPEUTIC EFFETS OF PEFLOXACIN(PELOCIN¢ç) IN URINARY TRACT INFECTION

Abstract
Pefloxacin is a new broad spectrum antibacterial agent against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria: A clinical evaluation on the therapeutic effects and side effects of Pefloxacin in urinary tract infection was performed in 30 patients and following results were obtained.
1. Excellent result was obtained in 17 cases, good result in 10 cases and poor result in 3 cases, and the overall efficacy rate was 90% in urinary tract infection. The efficacy rate for 22 patients with urinary tract infection without underlying disease was 95%, and in 8 patients with underlying disease, the efficacy rate was 85%.
2. In urinary tract inf rfions due to organisms resistant to other antibiotics, the efficacy rate of Pefloxacin was 63%
3. Except chronic prostatitis patients and chronic pyelonephritis patients, the efficacy rate was 100%.
4. The elimination rate of bacteria on culture findings after administration of Pefloxacin were E. coli 84%, Pseudomonas 100%, and Streptococcus 80%.
5. Mild side effects such as nausea, dizziness, and itching. sensation were seen in 3 cases.
Judging f om above results, Pefloxacin is considered to be very effective antibiotics in the treatment of urinary tract infection with low rate of side effects.
